A warm welcome to our monthly Mindful Practice Group. This informal monthly drop in group is open to anyone who has some basic mindfulness meditation experience. This get-together is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our mindfulness practice as well as each other, but most importantly to spend time in a safe and protected space in the spirit of maintaining our sense of balance, health, wellbeing and compassion. Everyone is welcome, whether you haven’t done any practice since the course or have done very little or have a regular mindfulness practice, this group is for you and I would love to see you. Who is the group for?

The group is for those who have completed a mindfulness based course either with the Dorset Mindfulness Centre or with another organisation and now wish to continue their practice in a guided and supported group setting. Meditation classes Bournemouth

When and Where?

Dates: Tuesday, 18 February 2020.
Venue: Durley Dean Hotel, 28 Westcliff Road, Bournemouth BH2 5HE
Time: 7pm- 9pm
February theme: The Art of Compassionate Relationships: How to navigate our our human connections with kindness, awareness and wisdom.
Self-investment: We ask a £8 for this event to help us cover venue cost. This can be given at the door on the night.
 
 
 

The programme for the evening

tickWe begin the session with group introductions and sharing of the ethos and spirit of the group as well as the topic for this month.

tickFollowed with a 20 minute Mindful Yoga movement meditation, standing and lying down (space permitting).

tickFollowed by a 30 minute guided meditation practice.

tickWe will have a short break mid way through the evening.

tickFollowed by optional peer sharing and mindful inquiry.

Who will be facilitating the group?

The group will be facilitated Robert Gebka, and or Dr Julia Forster, our mindfulness teachers.
 
 
 

About your mindfulness trainers, Robert and Julia

The courses are taught by either Robert and or Julia. Robert Gebka is a Qualified MBSR Teacher with the University of California San Diego Medical School, USA. He is former Buddhist monk who lived, worked and trained for five years at the Nan Hua Zen Buddhist monastery before joining the NHS. It is during this time that he was fortunate enough to meet HH the 14th Dalai Lama. He is an accredited psychological counsellor and has completed a two year project in Mindfulness Based Interventions in an NHS psychiatric hospital with a clinical population. He is also the author Managing Depression with Mindfulness for Dummies. Robert studied the neuroscience and physiology of mindfulness with Neuragy UK and is a registered member of the UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Organisations. He abides by their Good Practice Standards for teaching mindfulness-based courses. Read about Robert’s mindfulness journey and qualifications HERE.

Dr. Julia Forster is a Certified Mindfulness Practitioner with a doctor’s degree in educational psychology. She started her career in mental health nursing during which time she became very interested in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as an empowering tool for those with anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Moving on to teach nurses and then into further education and teacher training, Julia’s interest in CBT extended to consider how such approaches could be adapted to support professionals in managing the emotional complexities of their roles. In 2013 Julia completed a Ph.D. at Southampton University investigating the impact of a CBT toolkit for supporting trainee teachers to more effectively manage challenging student behaviour. Julia has a deep passion for exploring how mindfulness can be used to support people in their efforts to enhance their sense of happiness and wellbeing.

What kind of mindfulness meditations will we practice?

We will be guiding a variety of meditations practices ranging from Awareness of Breath, Body Scan, Self-compassion etc, depending on the theme of the month.

 

What do I need to bring?

We will provide the safe space, lots of love, chairs to sit on as well as snacks, cordial and water. If preferred, please bring your own meditation stool etc and or pillow and blanket if you wish to do a lying down meditation.
 
 

Do I need to book the session?

No, you don’t need to book just turn up on the night.
