This one-day, in-person/face to face, teacher-led mindfulness and self-compassion retreat (You can also join via Zoom if preferred) offers us the wonderful opportunity to take time out from our busy lives and take care of ourselves, expanding and deepening our sense of aliveness, self-compassion and wellbeing. Join us and come together with other like minded people to nourish our minds and bodies with meditation, dialogue and some easy to do soothing movement. This retreat is delivered in a secular and modern in style presented with a gentle Tibetan Buddhist flavour.

Many of us might feel like our lives have been put on pause especially with the current world wide uncertainties. Taking part in Zoom based activities has been of great benefit, but now that restrictions have been lifted an in person, face to face mindfulness retreat can provide a us with a new and fresh opportunity to connect with others in a way not possible via Zoom and help us reset and refocus on our lives empowering us to cultivate a greater sense of balance and resilience. The retreat is held at the Bournemouth Westcliff Hotel (formerly known as The Hallmark Hotel) 7 Durley Chine Road, Bournemouth BH2 5JS. The retreat venue is located five minutes walk from the sandy beaches in Bournemouth, Dorset on the Jurassic Coast. You can also participate in the training from the comfort of your home, live online via Zoom.

 
 
I attended a Mindfulness and Self-Compassion retreat with Dorset Mindfulness Centre and found it an extraordinary experience. In an atmosphere of gentle caring this thoughtful and well organized retreat provided a safe and loving space for all the meditators to explore and grow the presence of compassion in our lives. What is included in the retreat?

This in-person/face to face (You can join us  via Zoom) retreat is highly experiential and interactive. We have a diverse programme of mindfulness and self-compassion activities such as compassionate body scan, soothing movement practice, guided walking meditation, tea drinking meditation as well as emotional regulation skills adapted from modalities such as EMDR. All activities are very gentle and optional, where participants are encouraged to take part in what they feel comfortable with.

Our retreat approach & philosophy

Our Bournemouth Mindfulness and Self-compassion retreat is delivered in a secular and modern style, presented with a gentle Tibetan Buddhist flavour. The retreat draws from many evidence compassion based approaches such as CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy) by Prof Paul Gilbert, MSC (Mindful Self-compassion), by Dr Christopher K. Germer & Dr Kristin Neff and Radical Acceptance by Dr Tara Brach. 

A randomized, controlled trial demonstrated that mindfulness and self-compassion significantly increased self-kindness, compassion for others, self-awareness, and general life satisfaction, as well as decreased depression, anxiety and stress. Click here to view the research article.

 

 

 

This retreat is suitable for beginners as well as those with some meditation experience. It is Trauma Sensitive which means that we are incorporating cutting edge discoveries in neuroscience as well as Mindfulness Based Self-compassion giving each course participant a safe space in which to explore their meditation. If you have a history of severe or major depression and or other mental health difficulties and are in doubt about taking part in the retreat, then please discuss this with your chosen health professional or GP. About your retreat teachers: Julia and Robert

This retreat is felicitated by Robert Gebka and Dr Julia Forster. Robert is a Qualified MBSR Teacher with the University of California San Diego Centers for Integrative Health, a NHS mental health worker and author of Managing Depression with Mindfulness for Dummies. He studied the neuroscience and physiology of mindfulness with Neuragy UK. He lives in Bournemouth with his partner and their three year old daughter. Robert also enjoys gardening, walking on the beach and spending time in coffee shops. Dr. Julia Forster is an Educational Psychologist and MBSR Mindfulness Teacher. She started her career in mental health nursing during which time she became very interested in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as an empowering tool for those with anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Moving on to teach nurses and then into further education and teacher training. Julia has a deep passion for exploring how mindfulness can be used to support people in their efforts to enhance their sense of happiness and wellbeing.
